The strength of a nuclear arsenal is vital. I was in a Pershing nuke unit in Germany in the early eighties. Our systems were upgraded from P1 to P2 and the world freaked out. We had tens of thousands of protestors, all crying about how evil we were. Once fully implemented, and billions of dollars were spent, Ronald Reagan said to Gorbachev, ‘tear down this wall’ and they did.
These new upgraded weapons were faster to set up and launch, more accurate, and flew way faster than the old ones. Not long after the wall was coming down came that famous treaty and these brand new truck mounted missiles, with the crews that fired them, were taken to Florida to watch them fly, sans warhead of course. The point is, peace is expensive, the cost of war is worse!
